Lowering the Signpost at South Exit

the end of the Japanese summer is usually peppered with typhoons, which never seem to cause much damage or distress in the capital, whilst wreaking havoc elsewhere. this year has been no exception. Typhoon #18 passed thru fairly peaceably today, though these cops and utility workers clearly saw a chance to reenact that iconic image “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima”, at the South Exit of Shinjuku Station.

Elsewhere in the capital, bicycles lay prone en masse, thousands of cheap umbrellas perished in an honourable attempt to save the nation, and a tree was blown down.
