alone with his thoughts

alone with his thoughts

I recently shot a charity boxing event. Having full access to all parts of the venue was a novel surprise; this did mean that I was able to get a variety of different viewpoints, although the planned remote camera placement never came to fruition.

I shot with 14mm & 85mm lenses from ringside thru the ropes, though the judges are on three sides of the ring, which effectively limits your viewpoint. So I had brought along a 400mm lens, which could be used from the edges of the hall, giving a very different viewpoint, effectively narrowing the angle at which the photos are made. Here I took advantage of the subdued lighting for the corners. To my mind boxing photos are not always about punches landing; putting yourself in the mind of the fighter sometimes gives a different idea about how a photo might look or feel.
